This album is a re-release of the first Herbert album originally released in 1996 on the phono record label. Thankfully for us, K7 picked these recordings up to showcase this English dude’s versatility in his music compositions. All I can say is that this dude is really the sort to push the boundaries of music and will not stop till he gets it right. Herbert has worked with many well known producers namely Bjork and REM.
Listener’s will be pleased to know that this album contains a 2 disc set with extra tracks and some b sides that will sure to rock your boat any time any place. 100lbs was never intentionally written as an album but instead gathered together three vinyl ep’s entitled parts one, two and three during the day. This album showcases Herbert’s earlier works which consisted of the odd techno, deep house and quirky electronica.
The spotlight track this week starts the month of August fresh with some really deep chuggy house. Not sure how I can really describe this one, but it always gives me the goose bumps when I pop it in my player mainly because it’s kind of moody but at the same time damn stylin’. This is not your usual American house vibes, but rather a tangkap type of sound that usually works well from the 3am till 4am time slot. More like a floor filler than an anthem but nonetheless, the groove is heavy and very edgy.
This track is highly recommended for folks who wake up on Monday morning needing an aural fixation to ensure smoothness of the day and to showcase your 101% positive work attitude for the week ahead. A must have for Herbert fans and those struggling to slog out over the work week…
Tangkap This!!!
