This little known 12″ was first released in 1983 as a mini-LP, never released on an album. Firstly, the artwork on the cover makes it worth hunting down. You know you’re getting the real deal when there’s an art director involved and on this EP, it’s Island’s very own Bruno Tilley. The funky illustration is by talented Paul Wearing and it made me say JAH JAH JAH!

On to the music! Jah Wobble is John Wardle and was pretty big in the 80’s, mid 90’s to present. He teamed up with U2’s David Evans (The Edge) and Holger Czukay (I don’t know much about this dude) on this one-off project, but personally, the real standout track is Hold On To Your Dreams simply because of musical genius, Arthur Russell.

Responsible for 80’s disco classics like Dinosaur L’s “Go Bang!”, Loose Joints “Is It All Over My Face?” and Lola’s “Wax The Van”, in short, Arthur Russell is one of those talented guys that died too young. Here, Arthur provided the lyrics which basically completes this track. Hold On is one of those epic sounding ballads that maintains that slow, penetrating dance groove. Brilliant. The Edge is on lead guitar and in charge of the atmospherics. Not Bad. Don’t forget who’s producing this as well, none other than Mr Francois KKKKK.

The short sample here is not enough to tangkap the 8 minutes of sensual seduction. If you’re up for it, drop me an email and we can meet at Joo Chiat. You can listen to it on my iPod then. JAH JAH JAH!

Tangkap This!!!
