First of all wishing all readers a dope 2008!
To kick off my first review, I must say that this album is pure genius and style which features a lot of classic hits from the Beastie Boys. Most notable are famed tracks such as “shake your rump”, “Looking down the barrel of a gun”, “what comes around” etc.. Actually to me all the tracks within Paul’s Boutique is da shit! All Lah, ALLLL…
It still sounds fresh today and will always be at the fore front of Hip Hop. This is also due mainly to the producing efforts of the infamous Dust Brothers who created that whole sampling spectrum with much love and I dare say it’s been over 19 years since this whole style was created. Still DEM FRESHHHHHHHHHHHH lah!! If you like DJ shadow and the likes, u do need to get this as the Beasties were the first to initiate such a style and genre. They were the 1st!!
The spotlight track I must say is full on nonsense but too in your face to be ignored. It comes in 2 parts where the boys start off with a Nursery Rhyme vibe and then kills ya with the up rockin’ militant style mixed with rock guitars and funk and a ragga rhyme half way. Here are excerpts to the intro:
