Hey Folks! First of all wishing everyone a really swell 2009 in the year of the OX!
This week sees me digging up the crates from way way back in the last century. Since it is still Chinese New Year, I just wanted to be corny (yet relevant at the same time) and pick up something “Red” as it represents Luck, Huatness, Good Vibes, Overall Peace and Prosperity.
Mick Hucknall and his top notch power upper cut crew hits the spot with this week’s review. I am sure everyone is well aware of Simply Red’s famous hits such as “Holding Back The Years”, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”, “Money’s Too Tight Too Mention” and a phat load of other hits which you can google and go Red over.
Dawggs, you probably ain’t living it till you get your hands on this album titled “A New Flame”! I hardly give a 11 outta 10 type of review rating, but I really have to be honest and state that this album is da shittt!!! It really is, for many reasons which I don’t intend to spell out but rather let you nice people find out for your own.
Now to the spotlight track “Enough”, Mick Hucknall does it totally right from something done in 1989 with many jazz licks, ragga grooves and funky soulness. To tell you the truth, this still sounds extremely fresh, and that’s the beauty of this song production. The keyboards soar together with his vocals and the jazz chops at 2mins 43secs will just simply give you the placid, I mean PLACID goosebumps man!! Intense!!!!!!!
I did some research and the folks at Rhino Records United Kingdom recently did a collector’s edition release. Well, the bonus material includes the remastered version of the original 10 tracks, 5 bonus tracks and dawggs, a DVD footage of them at a Manchester gig in 1990! Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray!!
Simply Red Yoall, Simply Sublime………………..
Tangkap This!!!
