This Sweat compilation is a product of one of Detroit’s best kept house secrets, Mr. Lawrence Derwin Hall aka D-Ha. Back in the day, Derwin along with UR’s head honcho Mad Mike Banks started Detroit’s original deep house imprint Happy Records. This is way back folks, I’m talking about 1992 here so you feel me when I say D-Ha is a pioneer of sorts.

Derwin and Mad Mike during this time produced a series on Happy Records known as the Happy Trax series. Along with this series were also contributions by some of Detroit’s finest deep house producers for the Happy Records label. Folks, these releases are mighty groovy and pretty rare so if you see ‘em, grab ‘em!

So anyway, a few years ago, Derwin came back to the scene and started Sweat Productions. For it’s initial installment, Derwin got together some of the best deep house sounds Detroit has ever churned out (belonging not only to Happy Recs but Soul City, Simply Soul and of course.. UR) and released it as Sweat Volume One, stylishly mixed by DJ Rolando of Aztec Mystic / Quetzal fame. Now people, unknowing to many, he is actually doing the discerning house listening public a favour here so my Kangol off to him.

Because we are in a time of recession, the spotlight track for today is Marc Pharoah’s “Get It Up”, released under the now defunct Soul City Records. Check out the bassline folks, the groove is jackin’ 100%! The overall vibe is black from start to finish and basically a good pick to take your mind away from any worries during these depressing times of doom and gloom. It’s also a track that will cause pure mayhem on any dancefloor so I hope you guys enjoy this.
