Artiste: Marlena Shaw
Album: Let Me In Your Life
Spotlight Track: Without You In My Life
Label: South Bay
This album was released in 1982 to the South Bay label and had the last chart hit for Marlena Shaw. This album is quite hard to find, but it’s a must get for any rare groove 2 step fan. The tracks are all quite kerna, from some disco boogie numbers to soulful ballads, but the most perfect song would be my spotlight track “Without You In My Life”.
This track always makes me feel like buying 10 copies of the album every time I listen to it. The lyrics are full on, you can feel the heartbreak through the vocals, Marlena sang the hell out of it man… MADDDD! The groove is uniquely 2-step, the off-beat drum pattern makes this a cut above the rest. Lastly, it has all the little quirks like bass twangs and sax moments. ITZZORRRNN YOALL!
Marlena Shaw is a legendary legend, with classics like “Woman Of the Ghetto”, “California Soul”, “Go Away Little Boy”, “Look At Me Look At You”, they’re all sampled by top Djs such as Dj Shadow. She’s done everything from jazz to soul to disco (Touch Me In The Morning). Another killer track would be her version of “Feel Like Making Love” but this cut my friends, is a classic in its own right. Check it outzzzz.
Tangkap This!!!
